Course summary

A Level Drama and Theatre is designed for students who enjoy reading plays, watching and participating in drama - as performers, directors and designers - and who want to develop their skills in these areas. The course develops written, practical, creative and communication skills. Students will extend their ability to create drama, either in a performing or production role, or both. Students will also be required to write about theatre and to develop their powers of analysis to become an informed critic. Students will take part in drama performances, as well as studying plays, playwrights and theatre practitioners.

Entry requirements

• Grade 6 or above in GCSE Drama. • Evidence of your interest and experience in the subject, as well as your GCSE grades, will be taken into account in determining your suitability for entry to the course.

How you'll be assessed

Assessment is via a 3-hour written exam at the end of the course, and two practical units made up of performance and written coursework elements, one in Year 12 and one in Year 13. There are a number of trips to the theatre across the course, allowing students to explore a range of styles of performance.
