At A Level, students have the opportunity to work for ‘live clients’, encouraging a greater depth and understanding of the important role Design & Technology plays in every part of our lives. This also encourages students to produce commercial-quality projects, engage collaboratively with professionals and work to the tight deadlines that they will experience in university and employment. Throughout the course, the students will develop their analytical skills and they are encouraged to broaden and deepen their understanding through practical and theoretical study. At KS5, they are encouraged to make full use of modern materials and technology, including the use of 3D printing for rapid prototype work. The design process mirrors that which is used in industry to allow the students to understand fully how professional designers and engineers work. The opportunities following a Design qualification are endless. Whether you choose to take an Engineering route or follow a more creative path, the background understanding of complex design approaches to problem-solving is entirely transferable to any walk of life.
General minimum entry requirement: Five GCSE passes at grade 6 or above with a grade 7 preferred in subjects to be studied at A level, and required in certain cases.
