Business A Level follows the Edexcel specification where pupils understand what makes an entrepreneur start up a business, and the skills required to develop an idea into a profitable business. Subsequently, the learning is applied to the growth of larger businesses and how these are organised by function. The role of marketing, Financial, Operational and Human Resource functions are looked at in detail. The Economics and Business department also provides a range of extracurricular activities. GDST LEAD programme is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurial skills in all sixth formers where they work as part of a group to develop their social enterprise. They compete against teams from other GDST schools to be recognised for their creativity, problem-solving and presentation skills. Many students go on to study Economics or Business courses at prestigious universities including Warwick, LSE and Nottingham.
The entrance requirements for the Sixth Form are 5 GCSE passes graded 9-5 with 9-7 in the subjects chosen at A Level. To be eligible for an Academic Scholarship for the Sixth Form, a candidate would need to achieve grades 7-9 in all their GCSE subjects.
