In recent years we have had large numbers of students choosing to study Chemistry at LEH. It is of course a requirement for many Science-based courses at University including Physical Natural Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science and is very useful for many others. Many choose to do Chemistry also because they enjoy the challenge and the mix of practical, theoretical and analytical aspects of the subject and many transferable skills are being developed that are valued by both universities and employers. Outside lessons, students take part and have achieved success in a range of competitions including The Chemistry International Olympiad, The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and the Schools’ Analytical Chemist.
As a guide, to be able to achieve success in Chemistry at A level, you will probably need a minimum of Grade 7 but preferably an 8 or 9 at GCSE for Chemistry or Combined Science. A good grade for Mathematics at GCSE is also important, but you do not necessarily need to study Mathematics for A level. However, if you are thinking of continuing with a Chemistry-related course at University, then Mathematics, especially for the highly selective universities, is often essential.
