Mathematics is a popular A-level choice at LEH. The Russell Group deems Mathematics a ‘facilitating’ subject and as such recognises the fact that choosing to study it at A level leaves open a wide range of options for university study. Mathematics can be challenging but as a result, great pride and satisfaction are possible when a solution is solved. The complex nature of the subject is not the only reason Universities and employers respect it so much; students develop analytical skills, the ability to work in a problem-solving environment, formulate reasoned arguments and become more resilient. Those who study Mathematics place themselves in the fortunate position of having an excellent choice of career. Whether the single or further mathematics course is chosen, class sizes are small, the timetable allocation is generous and support is readily available both in and out of class. Students have numerous opportunities to further their interest in the subject by competing in the UKMT challenges and Olympiads and attending enrichment sessions and lectures.
You should choose Mathematics if you enjoy it and expect to achieve at least a Grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics.
