You will be introduced to a variety of experiences and explore a range of fine art media, processes and techniques. You will also have the opportunity to explore drawing for different purposes, using a variety of methods and media on a variety of scales, studying relevant images, artefacts and resources and responding through practical and critical activities. You will be required to work in one or more area(s) of Fine Art, such as those listed below. They may explore overlapping areas and combinations of areas: • drawing and painting • mixed-media, including collage and assemblage • sculpture • ceramics • installation • printmaking (relief, intaglio, screen processes and lithography) • moving image and photography
Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview and achievement at GCSE level. The minimum entry requirement is five passes at Grades 9 – 6, with a minimum of Grade 7 in the chosen A Level subjects. Candidates who have not taken GCSEs will be asked to sit an Assessment Test.
Component 1 - Personal investigation You will develop work for a personal investigation into an idea, issue, concept or theme supported by written material. This will count for 60% of your total A Level mark. Component 2 - Externally set assignment You will produce personal work in response to one of eight exciting starting points, which will count for 40% of your total A-Level mark. At the end of the course, you will create an exhibition for all of your work for assessment and moderation. Marking and Grading: The Creative Arts department follows the school marking policy and there are regular assessments, which generate feedback to parents and aid target setting with students. Student work is assessed using GCE grades A*-U.
