Course summary

The Business Studies course follows the AQA specification and is designed to provide candidates with a critical understanding of the internal functions of contemporary business and the dynamic external environment within which businesses operate. The course encourages candidates to acquire a range of skills including data skills and candidates are expected to make judgements and present arguments based on the available evidence. Candidates will also be acquiring the transferable skills of making decisions using the appropriate business tools and methods. Entry requirements

Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview and achievement at GCSE level. The minimum entry requirement is five passes at Grades 9 – 6, with a minimum of Grade 7 in the chosen A Level subjects. Candidates who have not taken GCSEs will be asked to sit an Assessment Test.

How you'll be assessed

Paper 1: Business 1 All subject content is assessed Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks in total - 33.3% of A Level Assessment structure: Three compulsory sections: Section A has 15 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) worth 15 marks. Section B has short answer questions worth 35 marks. Sections C and D have two essay questions (choice of one from two and one from two) worth 25 marks each. Paper 2: Business 2 All subject content is assessed Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks in total - 33.3% of A Level Assessment structure: Three data response compulsory questions worth approximately 33 marks each and made up of three or four-part questions Paper 3: Business 3 All subject content is assessed Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks in total - 33.3% of A Level Assessment structure: One compulsory case study followed by approximately six questions.
