The Advanced Level Business course is available in both AS and A-level pathways. The two separate qualifications are fully co-teachable in the first year of study. The interrelated nature of business is explored using models, theories and techniques to support analysis of contemporary business issues and situations. Decision making within dynamic internal and external environments forms the fundamental concept of the subject.
AS and A-level Business requires a broad range of skills and interests, and any standard combination of GCSEs is appropriate. The course combines quantitative and qualitative elements; therefore a minimum of a grade C in both English and Mathematics is advisable.
The AS course is assessed in three separate examinations: Business1 and Business2. These exams assess both quantitative and qualitative skills in the form of short answer, data response and extended essay questions. The A2 course is assessed in three papers: Business 1, Business 2 and Business 3. The strategic nature of the assessment has both quantitative and qualitative aspects. A mix of short answer, multiple choice, data response and extended case study essay assessment is distributed amongst the three papers.
