Employers favour well-rounded recruits and candidates with language skills are at an advantage. Sixth Form linguists study language, history, politics, geography, art, culture and social issues all in one subject when they take French. Many pupils take their languages further, whether by pursuing them at degree level or by combining a language with another subject such as history, international relations or engineering. Great emphasis is placed upon spending time in the home of a language, and all pupils are strongly urged to participate in our L6 Perpignan trip. Such an experience allows pupils to immerse themselves in French life and culture. The French department has a native Foreign Language Assistant to conduct one-to-one or small group speaking sessions with sixth formers. Sixth formers can also take part in the language leader scheme as part of their Community Service, come along to our weekly French café, participate in inter-school French debating competitions and translation workshops, as well as other varying opportunities.
Admission to the school is a conditional place based on achieving a minimum of 6x6 grade passes at GCSE; this is a minimum entry requirement and higher grades might be necessary in intended A Level subjects, namely the Sciences and Maths.
Perpignan trip in L6 year 7 periods a week + 1 conversation class a week with a Language Assistant. Individual Research Project. Components: • Paper 1 - Listening, Reading, Writing (2h 30) • Paper 2 - Writing (2h) • Paper 3 - Speaking
