The course covers three components; UK Politics, UK Government and Comparative Global Politics. Each component is examined separately in a 2-hour examination consisting of a combination of shorter and longer essay-based questions. The first year of the course consists of two components: UK Politics- topics consist of: • Democracy and Participation Political Parties • Electoral Systems • Voting Behaviour and the Media UK Government- topics consist of: • The Constitution • Parliament • Prime Minister and Executive • Relationships between Institutions • Core Political Ideas - Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism During year 2 students will study 2 components: • An optional Non-core Political Idea - Nationalism • Comparative Politics - Global politics, theories of global politics, sovereignty and globalisation, global governance: political and judicial, global governance: economic and environmental, power and developments, regionalism and the European Union
Seven 9-5 grades in full course GCSE subjects. May include BTEC equivalent Grade 5 in English Language/Literature *The course requires students to have proficient essay writing skills and therefore a grade 6 in either English Literature or Language is highly recommended.
