Italian is offered to beginners in 6b and the aim is to bring pupils to A level of basic competence in one year and to GCSE, depending on progress, in two. It moves fast and is aimed at well-motivated linguists. Teaching methods include the ‘Amici’ textbook, BBC, and online resources, plus plenty of reading material in the later stages. Pupils with prior knowledge of Italian or native speakers of Italian can also be guided towards the Edexcel A level in one or two years.
