BTEC Nationals are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the signature vocational qualification. BTEC Business embodies a mature, fundamentally student-centered approach with a unit-based structure applied in separate, project-based assessments. They focus on the development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. Two units are coursework based, and two units are assessed externally, with one re-take allowable.
At least 5 GCSEs at grades 9-5, grade 6 in English Language or Literature, and Mathematics. Business BTEC requires precise mathematical skills for calculating and interpreting financial ratios. Literacy skills are also key to gaining high grades for this subject, as there is a wide variety of written coursework. The ability to write well, using learned business vocabulary is very important. Students aiming for a Distinction * grade, need to be able to write well-reasoned judgments supported with detailed analysis of case study businesses and highly evaluative reasoned judgements.
