Course summary

Textile design involves the creation of textiles across a variety of practices. The tools used in textiles are wide ranging, including traditional hand crafts and computer-aided technology. Natural and manufactured materials including paper, wire, tissue, gauze, plastics, re-cycled packaging and cloths, silk, wool, cotton, polyester and hessian are used in all aspects of design in fashion, furnishing and fine art. In the context of this A Level, disciplines include constructed textiles, dyed textiles, printed textiles, fine art textiles, costume and fashion textiles. Pupils will be required to work in one or more of these disciplines.

Entry requirements

A – Level Art builds on the skills and understanding acquired at GCSE, but this is not a compulsory requirement, students will be considered on individual merit. An enthusiasm to extend one’s knowledge and a preparedness to work hard is a requirement and will assist the progress of candidates opting for this course. Good drawing skills coupled with a willingness to experiment are important. Commitment, imagination, determination, and the ability to work independently are pre-requisites of the course.
