Course summary

The A Level Mathematics course is linear, with all three exams being taken at the end of Year 13. The content is broken down into Pure and Applied modules with two Pure Mathematics examinations and one Applied examination. Students have to study both Statistics and Mechanics in the Applied; there is no longer a choice within the course. The pure modules consist of geometry, algebra, trigonometry, sequences and series, and calculus. The third module is the Statistics and Mechanics Applied module. Statistics looks at probability, representing and interpreting data and predicting outcomes whereas Mechanics is looking at the physical side of Mathematics, including forces acting upon particles, centres of mass and kinematics. These two modules apply the mathematics learnt in the core modules to solve real-world problems. Maths A Level complements a wide variety of subjects such as the Sciences, ICT, Geography, Economics and Psychology etc. You will learn how to solve problems in a logical manner which is a skill highly sought after by employers.
