Topics studied are similar to those touched on at GCSE but are studied in more depth. It also includes the study of two literary works comprising one film and one novel/play/ selection of poems and the development of independent research skills on a topic of personal interest. Students will study technological and social change, looking at the multicultural nature of Hispanic society. We will explore the highlights of Hispanic artistic culture, including a focus on Spanish regional identity and the cultural heritage of past civilisations. You will learn about aspects of the diverse political landscape of the Hispanic world. You will also explore the influence of the past on present-day Hispanic communities. Throughout the course, you will learn the language in the context of Hispanic countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them. You will study both texts and film and will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of your choice. The department helps students hone their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills in Spanish in lessons and through one-to-one conversation practice with a native speaker.
