They are for students aged 16 plus who want to specialise in a specific industry or prepare for a particular job.” (Department for Education – DfE). Both Qualifications are taught over 2 years and will have either 7 (Extended Certificate) or 14 (Diploma) lessons a week, with additional work to be completed outside the classroom. The Extended Certificate is similar to the Diploma and is equivalent to 1 A Level, and will cover the first 5 of the modules that are covered by the Diploma and will also have a Marketing focus.
