Course summary

Business is a dynamic and exciting subject which encompasses the four main disciplines of Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Operations Management and Human Resources Management and often allows pupils to find an area they would like to specialise in. In our teaching, and in line with our Catholic ethos, we emphasise the social responsibility of business. We also ensure that in Business lessons pupils are given the opportunity to reflect and share their own experiences to aid their learning. In lessons, we strive to give pupils the knowledge, skills and compassion they will need to be Business leaders of the future and Men and Women for others. Business encompasses the four main disciplines of Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Operations Management and Human Resources Management. It also considers the external environment in which businesses operate. Whilst studying Business at Stonyhurst we will emphasise the social responsibility of business both to reflect our catholic ethos and the current importance of firms’ social standing. You will complete case study work and data response questions, however, there are also many opportunities for practical work including group presentations, “apprentice” style challenges and extended project work. Business relates to every aspect of life, it combines well with any other of A Levels though Business with Economics, Maths and/or languages are popular choices. The 4 themes that are covered in Edexcel A level are: • Marketing and people • Managing business activities • Business decisions and strategy • Global business
