Drama and Theatre is a creative, challenging and academic subject for those who enjoy active and dynamic lessons and who want to learn how to turn independent thought and insightful research into tangible outcomes. These are invaluable skills for University, for your career, and for life beyond. In joining the Drama Department for A level Drama and Theatre, you are joining a team of hardworking, creative students with a keen interest in the world around them. You will work on your feet: rarely do you find yourself sitting behind a desk in a Drama and Theatre lesson. However don’t let this fool you: our course is academically demanding. You will be asked to engage with a range of cultural discourses that challenge your perception of what constitutes dramatic art, and what it is for. You will explore how and why people act as they do, and as they have done over two thousand years of Western cultural development. Note also that although most do, you do not need to act at any point during the assessment: students can work as directors, designers and technicians throughout the course.
For entry to the Sixth Form, applicants take papers in the subjects which they propose to study in the Sixth Form. Specimen papers are not provided. Reports will be requested from each pupil's current school.
