The course comprises three parts: Philosophy of Religion, Ethics and Study of Religion. Philosophy involves a critical examination of our most fundamental beliefs about truth and reality, right and wrong. It challenges many of our assumptions about what we know and how we should live. It is a discipline concerned with how different views of the world clash or fit together, and with how far different perspectives (moral, scientific, religious, metaphysical, personal) may be reconciled. Philosophy is concerned with epistemology (theories of knowledge); it is therefore an inter-disciplinary subject and will complement both Art and Science A Levels. Many students go on to read Philosophy, Politics, Economics, languages or indeed any other Arts degree courses such as Law. The Ethics component makes it an excellent choice for those wishing to pursue a career in Medicine or the Bio-Sciences.
A minimum Grade 6 in English at GCSE, as well as a love of ideas and an ability to write essays.
Study of Religion (Buddhism): Examination 2hrs 33.33% Philosophy of Religion: Examination 2hrs 33.33% Religion and Ethics: Examination 2hrs 33.33%
