The AQA A-Level course in Art, craft and design is a highly creative and exciting subject that will engage you in a wide range of artistic tasks aimed at expanding skills, techniques, knowledge and concepts using two dimensional and or three dimensional media. You will investigate a wide range of traditional and contemporary artists and will use this knowledge to develop your own works of art, producing a portfolio of work for assessment. As part of the course you will investigate an area of Art, craft and design that interests you, for which you will write a detailed analysis. The course allows you study Fine art skills and practice as well as aspects of Textiles design.
At A level there are two components that make up the qualification. Component 1- Personal investigation This makes up 60% of the qualification. Component 2 – Externally set assignment this is worth 40% of the qualification This includes a preparatory period followed by 15 hours of supervised time in exam conditions.
