English Literature will allow you to explore the richness and complexity of novels, poetry and drama. You will explore a wide range of texts, considering the contexts they were written in, and how readers have responded to them over time. For the examinations you will study the poetry of Christina Rossetti, the play A Doll’s House, Shakespeare’s great political play Coriolanus, Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway and a unit on unseen writing. For coursework you will study three modern texts, all post 1900 and one post 2000.
Automatic entry to Old Palace Sixth Form is dependent upon GCSE results. To be admitted to Year 12 a student must have: ▪ An average of 6 or higher in their best 8 GCSEs taken in Year 11 ▪ A grade 6 or above in English and Mathematics ▪ A viable programme of Sixth Form study Minimum grade 6 in GCSE English Language and English Literature.
80% marks for two examinations. 20% marks for two coursework essays.
