Studying A Level Physical Education will give you a fantastic insight into sports performance. This A Level provides a combination of physical performance and academic challenge, which is exciting to study. To achieve high grades it is expected that pupils will be participating in regular practices and competitive sporting situations. Lessons consist of discussion work, individual research, presentations, the interpretation and analysis of information and practical tasks.
Our usual entry requirement is a GCSE Level 7 or higher in the subject that you wish to study coupled with a raft of GCSE Level 6 and above results. If you wish to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Maths then a Level 7 or higher is required.
Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport. 2 hour written exam, 35% of A Level. Section A: Applied anatomy and physiology; Section B: Skill acquisition; Section C: Sport and society. Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport. 2 hour written exam, 35% of A Level. Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport. Students assessed as a performer or a coach in the full-sided version of the one activity, plus verbal/written analysis of performance. Assessed internally and then externally moderated. 30% of A Level.
