Students will be encouraged to enhance their linguistic skills and promote and develop a capacity for critical thinking on the basis of their knowledge and understanding of the language, culture and society of the country or countries where the language is spoken. The course core content includes a range of themes based on social issues and trends, political and artistic culture, and grammar. In addition, all students will have the opportunity to study a range of literary texts and films.
All candidates seeking entry to Rossall Sixth Form will be required to pass at least five GCSE/iGCSE subjects (Grades 5-9) (or equivalent qualifications from the student’s own country) as well as provide a satisfactory report from their current school. Please note: In order to study certain subjects, candidates will need to have achieved at least a Grade 6 or 7 in that subject (or related discipline) at GCSE/iGCSE.
Students will sit all examinations at the end of the course. Paper 1 Listening, reading and writing 2 hours 30 minutes 50% of A Level Paper 2 Writing. Students will be writing two essays based on the literary texts and/or film they have studied. 2 hours 20% of A Level Paper 3 Speaking. The oral examination consists of the discussion of one theme based on a stimulus card followed by the presentation and discussion of the student’s Individual Research Project. 21-23 minutes, including 5 minutes preparation time 30% of A Level
