Course summary

The Extended Project is an A-level standard standalone qualification designed to extend and develop the students’ abilities beyond the A-level syllabus. It puts the student in control, giving them the chance to explore something new. Excellent preparation for higher education, the Extended Project encourages independent thought, critical thinking and personal exploration. The Extended Project has no examination; it is an independent coursework project. Students will select one of the following topic formats for their project: • The Dissertation (a 5000-word essay similar to a university style dissertation) • The Artefact (a practical project accompanied by a 1000-word report) • Students will also complete a Production Log and give a live presentation to a non-specialist audience about their project.

Entry requirements

All candidates seeking entry to Rossall Sixth Form will be required to pass at least five GCSE/iGCSE subjects (Grades 5-9) (or equivalent qualifications from the student’s own country) as well as provide a satisfactory report from their current school. Please note: In order to study certain subjects, candidates will need to have achieved at least a Grade 6 or 7 in that subject (or related discipline) at GCSE/iGCSE.

Use Resources 20%: How information and resources are used and selected throughout the Project. Develop and Realise 40%: The range of skills used to achieve the final outcome.
