Course summary

An A Level qualification in Latin is extremely useful for pupils wishing to progress onto higher education and builds on the knowledge acquired from the GCSE qualification, which is a prerequisite for candidates to be admitted to the A Level course. Pupils not only acquire specific knowledge, but important transferable skills such as analysis and inference, as well as developing independent, evaluative and critical approaches to literature. They practise formulating and supporting an argument through reasoning, and gain a valuable understanding of cultures which are fundamental for Modern Europe. Subjects like this are mentioned in the Russell Group “Informed Choices” document as well as featuring on Trinity College, Cambridge’s list of Generally Suitable A Levels as they develop the pupils critical thinking skills.
