A Level Dance is stimulating, challenging and an intrinsically rewarding and dynamic qualification. It encourages students to develop their creative and intellectual capacity, alongside gaining transferable skills such as; team working, communication and problem-solving. All of these attributes are sought after by higher education and employers and will help you to stand out in the workplace, whatever your choice of career.
• A minimum of two grade 7 and four grade 6 at GCSE, normally including grade 6 or equivalent in English and Mathematics. • The required minimum grades for each A Level choice. For Further Mathematics, a grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics is required. For Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or a Modern Foreign Language a grade 7 in the subject is required. For all other subjects, a grade 6 in the appropriate facilitating subject is required; however, a grade 7 is recommended. A minimum Grade 6 in GCSE Dance is required. If you have not taken GCSE Dance, pupils need to demonstrate their practical ability through an audition.
The AQA specification consists of two components. It is a Linear course that is 50% practical and 50% theoretical. Component 1: Performance and Choreography • Solo performance linked to a specified practitioner within an area of study (Christopher Bruce, Glen Tetley, Robert= North, Richard Alston, Siobhan Davies and Ashley Page). • Performance in a quartet. • Group choreography. • Assessed by an AQA external examiner. Component 2: Critical Engagement - Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation • One compulsory set work within the compulsory area of study: Rooster, Christopher Bruce (1991). • One compulsory area of study: Rambert Dance Company (1966-2002), with a choice of two named practitioners. • One optional set work and corresponding area of study from a choice of four, including two, named practitioners.
