Course summary

Mathematics leads to a single subject award, whereas Further Mathematics encompasses both Mathematics and Further Mathematics A Level. We also offer Further Mathematics at AS Level in the Upper Sixth. Please note that full Further Mathematics can only be taken as a fourth A Level. There is no coursework for Mathematics or Further Mathematics. • A high grade at GCSE, along with a studious nature and a strong desire to learn, is what you need to do well. The course involves the study of the techniques of Mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics and mechanics, which are in turn, applied to different practical situations.

Entry requirements

• A minimum of two grade 7 and four grade 6 at GCSE, normally including grade 6 or equivalent in English and Mathematics. • The required minimum grades for each A Level choice. For Further Mathematics, a grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics is required. For Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or a Modern Foreign Language a grade 7 in the subject is required. For all other subjects, a grade 6 in the appropriate facilitating subject is required; however, a grade 7 is recommended. Mathematics: A minimum Grade 7 in Mathematics at GCSE is required, and a Grade 8 is strongly recommended.

How you'll be assessed

Students in Mathematics will sit three, two-hour examinations at the end of the Upper Sixth – Paper One (Pure), Paper Two (Pure) and Paper Three (Applied Mechanics and Statistics).
