Further Mathematics is designed to broaden and deepen the mathematical knowledge and skills developed in A-Level Mathematics. It aims to stretch and challenge those high-achieving students who have good mathematics skills and enjoy the subject. The topics are more sophisticated and advanced than those in Mathematics.
5 GCSEs grade 5 or above including English at grade 5 and Mathematics at grade 7 or above or equivalent international qualifications. For international students who have taken IELTS, we require an overall score of 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 for each of the reading and writing components. For international students who have taken IGCSE English (Second Language), we require grade 5 or above. A minimum of grade B in A-Level Mathematics must be achieved at the end of a student’s first year for her or him to progress into A-level Further Mathematics.
All papers are a 1 hour and 30 minute written examination. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory requirements: Paper 1: Core Pure Mathematics 1 Paper 2: Core Pure Mathematics 2 For Paper 3 and Paper 4 the following combinations are added to the compulsory content: Paper 3: Further Statistics 1 Paper 4: Further Mechanics 1
