Chemistry is the study of substances, what they are made of, how they interact and what role they play in living things. Chemistry, fundamentally, is the science of materials. It is about gases, liquids and solids; how they interact and how they may be made. It is the study of all materials and is vital to every aspect of your life. From the moment you are born and throughout your life you are surrounded by Chemistry; in the air you breathe, the food you eat and the clothes you wear. If you think about plastics, pesticides and drugs; fireworks, fuels and explosives, Chemistry is, literally, everywhere. Chemistry and the chemical sciences open up a world of possibilities and expand your career choices. No matter how the world changes, Chemistry will always be at the centre of science and the heart of life. Training in Chemistry or the chemical sciences gives you the skills needed for a wide range of careers. Examination board: OCRA. The course itself will cover all of the fundamentals of Physical, Organic, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry and provide appropriate preparation for university-level study in the subject. The lessons are highly engaging and involve a range of activities including practical work, group work, data analysis and problem-solving. The course looks at modern developments and applications of Chemistry and introduces the chemical principles in an organised and linear fashion.
Candidates must have a minimum of 6 GCSEs grade 6 and above, including maths and English, and grade 7s in the A-level subjects they wish to study (where relevant).
