Course summary

Learning Spanish is more advantageous than ever and being able to speak Spanish will not only enable you to communicate with speakers worldwide, it will also bring other academic benefits as well. Given its rich artistic and literary history, studying Spanish at A-level will enhance any further study you do in humanity-based subjects such as English, History, Politics and Art. The course will be following the Edexcel specification which is divided into four themes, each containing different key cultural aspects of Spanish society. As with learning any language, there are four important skills that you will gain with A-level Spanish: Speaking The ability to speak Spanish will allow you to communicate with over 400 million people across the world, from Spain to South America as well as The USA. By the end of Year 13 you will have the opportunity to present your findings after researching any related topic you feel passionate about. Listening Spanish listening skills will enable you to understand Spanish speakers, as you’ll be able to pick up on the different accents and regional varieties. You’ll also be able to watch Spanish films and TV shows, listen to podcasts and enjoy the widest and most exciting range of world music. Reading By learning Spanish at A-level, you’ll be able to read Spanish literature in its original format, as well as magazines, newspapers and online news sites. The plays studied at A-level are regularly staged in London, providing the perfect opportunity for an outing or two. Writing With your A-level knowledge, you’ll have the ability to write in many different styles. You will develop your essay writing techniques as well as a critical view of films and literature.
