At GCSE, Fine Art encompasses all media and creative disciplines and will involve drawing, painting, 3D studies, photographic processes, printmaking, textiles techniques, and digital art. Pupils will become proficient in a range of skills and will experience a variety of processes and techniques, and will use these to develop their own ideas, concepts and imagery in their chosen medium in the form of an extended practical coursework project, developed and refined into an ambitious and accomplished final artwork. Contemporary cultural context and aspects of art history will be taught and further researched as it applies to the practical inquiry of each pupil.
Entry to the Sixth Form is subject to a minimum requirement of 5 GCSEs at Grade 6 unless there is a compelling reason to modify this requirement, and in any event, where this is necessary it will usually lead to the applicant being offered a BTEC or BTEC with one A Level as a Sixth Form course. Candidates must achieve at least a Grade 6 at GCSE in any subject to be studied at A level, and a Grade 7 in the case of Mathematics, any Science or a Modern Foreign Language.
