This fascinating course covers a diverse range of disciplines and perspectives on the ancient world, both Roman and Greek. The World of the Hero unit includes a study of both Greek and Roman epic, by both Homer and Virgil. The Culture and the Arts unit allows for an in-depth study of power and propaganda as displayed through the Imperial image of the first Roman emperor Augustus. The final unit encompasses the beliefs and ideas of the ancient world, and focuses on Greek attitudes to religion, such as the nature of the Olympian gods, and the personal experience of the divine.
The normal expectation for entry to our Sixth Form is six Grades 9 - 5 or equivalent at GCSE, but we do consider all applications on an individual basis, so if you have any concerns about meeting these grades please come and speak to Mrs C L Wheeler or Mr Smith, our Assistant Principal (Academic). You should have a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for the Classical world. You do not need to have taken a GCSE in Latin or Classical Civilisation. You should enjoy studying literature and enjoy analysing visual images and ancient artefacts.
