The syllabus is designed to engage students in topics and issues that are relevant in today’s society, such as business ethics and globalisation. In addition, students will gain a broad understanding of all aspects of business. In the first year, topics include Business formation, Influences from the external environment, Decision making, Leadership and Management, Marketing, Operations, Finance and Human resources. In the second year, topics studied include Analysing, choosing and pursuing Business Strategy, a deeper understanding of the functional areas, economic, social and political influences, the competitive environment, managing change and organisational culture.
The normal expectation for entry to our Sixth Form is six Grades 9 - 5 or equivalent at GCSE, but we do consider all applications on an individual basis, so if you have any concerns about meeting these grades please come and speak to Mrs C L Wheeler or Mr Smith, our Assistant Principal (Academic). There is no requirement to have previously studied GCSE Business. However, students considering studying Business at A Level should be comfortable when calculating and interpreting data, be willing to learn the skills of extended essay writing, have strong communication skills and an interest in the business activity which takes place all around us.
