Following the AQA syllabus, this course takes a multi-disciplinary approach, allowing students to appreciate the physiological, psychological and sociological issues that underpin both mass participation and elite athlete development. The course is based on the interaction between the theory and practice of Physical Education. It provides an excellent foundation for students who wish to develop their understanding of the multi-faceted world of sport as both an academic discipline and a global economic industry, and in this respect can provide a natural link to scientific and humanities courses. The course will provide students with the opportunity to showcase their practical performance or coaching skills within a full sporting event.
All applicants should be on course to achieve a minimum of 4 A (level 7 grades) and 4 B (level 6 grades). The A grades should be in the subjects they wish to study at A level.
Papers 1 and 2 are written exams. Paper 1 - 120 minutes - 35% Factors affecting physical activity Paper 2 - 120 minutes - 35% Factors affecting optimal performance Video practical - 15 minutes - 15% Written coursework - 15%
