Course summary

German is the language of Europe’s powerhouse and is the most spoken language in the EU. It is the main language used in business and international diplomacy, with Germany being the UK’s largest trading partner. Based on the survey carried out by the British Academy, German is the most requested language by employers. The German Department offers biennial study trips to Berlin where students’ knowledge of the language, history and culture is reinforced. Classroom learning is enriched by study visits to London and Brighton. The improvement of speaking skills is supported by individual sessions with a language assistant who is a native speaker.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five Grades 6s, which should include English and Mathematics Most students who wish to take German will be expected to have a grade of 7/8 at GCSE, although students with a grade of 6 are not necessarily excluded and can go on to gain very good grades.
