Being able to communicate in another language is an invaluable skill in life. This explains why most students choose to study a Modern Language at GCSE and even though French remains the first choice across the United Kingdom, fewer opt for an A Level in French. This makes linguists distinctive when it comes to university selection and highly sought-after candidates when it comes to competition in the workplace and on the job market. Choosing to study A-Level French will give you a profound understanding of the language of course, but it will also give you extensive knowledge of history, politics, and literature. What the course covers: Year 12: • Film study: La Haine by Mathieu Kassovitz • Recent changes in French Society. • Political and artistic culture in French-speaking countries. Year 13: • French immigration and multicultural society. • The Nazi Occupation and the Resistance • Novel study: No et moi by Delphine de Vigan
Prospective students will need to achieve a minimum of three Grade 7s and two Grade 6s overall at GCSE. An offer of a place is based upon personal statement, school report, mock and predicted grades, school reference and interview with the Head of Sixth Form. Please see the below timeline for important dates for your diary relevant to 2025 entry. If your child is currently a student at New Hall in Year 11, information will be sent through to you separately regarding the transition into Sixth Form.
