The course is studied under three main headings, Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. ● Pure Mathematics builds on the concepts and methods in algebra, geometry and trigonometry studied for GCSE and introduces differential and integral calculus as important new disciplines. ● Statistics extends GCSE coverage by introducing probability distributions and statistical hypothesis testing. ● Mechanics deals with forces in equilibrium and the relationship between forces and motion.
This is a fully examined course. The examinations take place at the end of Year 13 and consist of three 2 hour papers, Pure Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics, and Pure Mathematics and Mechanics.
