
In Year 12, you will initially focus on a period study on relations between the Greek states and between Greek and non-Greek states, including the victory over the Persian Empire (492–404 BC). The course will then focus on a depth study of the politics and society of Sparta (478-404 BC), including its educational values and military culture. In Year 13, you will initially study the development of the empire of Rome as a period study, examining the role of the Julio-Claudian Emperors, including two of the most notorious Emperors, Caligula, and Nero (31 BC-AD 68). The course will then focus on a depth study in Ruling Roman Britain (AD 43 – c.128), including the Roman conquest and expansion and resistance to Roman rule.
College entry. No prior knowledge of the subject is required, and you do not need to have studied GCSE Ancient History or GCSE History. However, if you have studied them, we would expect you to have obtained at least a Grade 4.
100% Examination. There are two exams of 2hours 30 minutes, each worth 98 marks.
