You will gain a realistic insight into the personal and professional skills needed to be an effective member of today’s protective services. You will also learn about the values and attitudes needed for working within this challenging but unique sector in order to contribute to having a vital role in the social welfare of the nation. This qualification will equip you with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills required for direct progression into a broad range of roles within the industry and you will be able to apply academic theory to practice. You can expect an engaging course as it has been designed by significant input from employers. This includes, strong occupational links with the industry such as HM Prison Service, Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. The course is made up of a wide subject base, including the study of leadership and teamwork in the protective services, study of major incidents, criminology, police powers, expedition skills and an insight into the government policies and the protective services within the United Kingdom.

Over the course of the two years you will study thirteen units which are assessed by a combination of coursework and controlled assessments, including two external exams. The course is stimulating and varied, as it combines classroom-based study with exciting outdoor activity and group work. This also includes undertaking scenario workshops and specialist industry events and therefore enhancing skills needed for employment.
