Course content AS (Year 12) (H032) A Level (H432) Module 1: Development of practical skills - AS & A2 Module 2: Foundations in Chemistry - AS Module 3: Periodic Table and Energy - AS Module 4: Core Organic Chemistry - A2 Module 5: Physical Chemistry and Transition Elements - A2 Module 6: Organic Chemistry and Analysis - A2 Other skills developed Analytical and evaluative skills, numeracy, how to solve and explain complex problems and ideas. Students enjoy extending their knowledge of chemistry outside of the classroom through a range of activities which include The Chemistry Olympiad, The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and a STEM project conducted in collaboration with UCL/Imperial and the Institute for Research in Schools. There is also the opportunity to support the Year 7 science and STEM club or to undertake an EPQ. Career value Chemistry is a necessity for those wishing to study biochemistry, chemistry & chemical engineering, medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy and many biological subjects at university. It is an excellent subject to complement physics and mathematics or works well as a lone science A Level. A student’s view “I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Chemistry. The teachers are enthusiastic and very helpful and we have done lots of fun practicals. The course is hard work but it is very satisfying at the end of AS and A Level to see how much you have improved during the course.”
