Why study IBCP Psychology? Have you ever wondered what makes people obey authority? How do different parts of our brain affect our daily behaviour? Why do you sometimes incorrectly recall a memory or information? These are just some of the questions that psychologists attempt to answer and some that you could explore yourself if you study psychology. Psychology is the study of the human mind. Psychologists use scientific methods to investigate behaviour that includes phenomena such as learning, memory, language, personality, social behaviour, child development and mental illness. As well as this you will also develop a vast skill set which allows you to analyse and evaluate studies, you will even have the opportunity to carry out your own study. What will I study during the course duration? Unit 1: The Biological Approach is the study of how the brain, hormones and genetics influence human behaviours such as memory and aggression. Unit 2: The Cognitive Approach is the study of how patterns of thinking, decision making and emotions influence human behaviours such as memory and stereotyping. Unit 3: The Sociocultural Approach is the study of cultural differences and how these influence human behaviours such as conformity and prejudice. Unit 4: Relationships is the study of the formation of romantic and other personal relationships as well as the factors which contribute to the success or failure of these relationships. Unit 5: Developmental Psychology is the study of the cognitive, biological and social factors which influence the development of children and the impact these have on successful future outcomes. The internal assessment component allows students to undertake a group research project through replicating an existing research study. Students acquire the knowledge and skills required to conduct, analyse and evaluate scientific research which successfully prepares them for higher education.
