The Edexcel GCE Drama and Theatre Studies course is designed to develop students, performing skills and understanding of how to interpret drama and theatre through an appreciation of performance texts. Students will learn and recognise how the social, cultural and historical contexts of performance texts have influenced the development of drama and theatre. They will experience a range of opportunities to create theatre through performances that are both published text-based and devised; challenging student’s to develop the creativity and independence to become effective theatre makers. Component 1: Devise an original performance piece. The performance must use one key extract from a performance text and a theatre practitioner as stimuli. This component is assessed through a performance and a written portfolio. Internally assessed and externally moderated. Component 2: This component is split into two performances. A group performance of one key extract from a performance text and a monologue or duologue performance from one key extract from a different performance text. Assessed by an external examiner. Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice. This is a written examination lasting 2 hours 30 minute. The examination is split into three sections. A Live Theatre Evaluation, realising a performance text and interpreting a performance text.
