Course summary

This course will cover : Unit 1— Human Lifespan Development This unit will develop your knowledge and understanding of patterns of human growth and development. You will learn about factors that can influence human growth, development and human health. You will also explore the impact of both predictable and unpredictable life events, and recognise how they impact on individuals. You will study physical and psychological factors of the ageing process, and how this affects confidence and self-esteem. Unit 2—Working in Health and Social Care This unit will help you to understand what it is like to work in the health and social care sector. You will begin by looking at the range of roles and general responsibilities of people who work in health and social care settings. You will learn about the organisations that provide services in this sector, and the different settings in which these services are delivered according to the needs of the service user. You will learn about the ways these services are provided and about the barriers that can prevent people from getting the services they need. Unit 5—Meeting Individuals Care and Support Needs This unit introduces you to the values and issues that need to be considered when planning care and support that meet the needs of an individual in a health and social care environment. This course is ideally suited to students who are motivated and want to gain a deeper understanding of health and social and early years’ practice. This course is equivalent to one A-Level and will complement a range of other subjects such as psychology and sociology

Entry requirements

To study this course you will need to achieve 32-35 points if you wish to study it alongside other BTEC or vocational courses. 36 - 48 points if you wish to study it alongside A level subjects. Calculating your Point Score • Points have the same numerical value as the grade achieved. For example a Grade 5 is equivalent to 5 points. • Combined Science GCSE counts as two GCSEs and the two grades should be combined. For example a 7/6 would be 13 points. • For students who have studied a Level 2 BTEC Qualification the following conversions should be used: Distinction* : 8 Points Distinction: 7 Points Merit: 6 Points Level 2 Pass: 5 Points

How you'll be assessed

The extended certificate is assessed through 2 examinations and 2 assignment based tasks. Mandatory Units Unit 1- Human Lifespan Development (exam) Unit 2- Working in Health and Social Care (exam) Unit 5- Meeting Individuals Care and support needs (assignment) One additional Optional unit which will be an assignment
