Course summary

Students study technological and social change, looking at diversity and the benefits it brings. They will study highlights of French-speaking artistic culture, including francophone music and cinema, and learn about political engagement and who wields political power in the French-speaking world.   Students also explore the influence of the past on present-day French-speaking communities. Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of French-speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them. Students will study texts and film and have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice.   The course is ideally suited to students who wish to travel or wish to pursue a career in business. This A-level provides a solid foundation for studying French at degree level. Many students choose to do a combined honours languages degree with other subjects like law, business, history and even engineering. Gaining a deeper knowledge of a language will give you a strong competitive edge in an ever competitive globalised employment market.

Entry requirements

To study this course you will need to achieve 36 - 48 points and a Grade 6 in GCSE French Calculating your Point Score • Points have the same numerical value as the grade achieved. For example a Grade 5 is equivalent to 5 points. • Combined Science GCSE counts as two GCSEs and the two grades should be combined. For example a 7/6 would be 13 points. • For students who have studied a Level 2 BTEC Qualification the following conversions should be used: Distinction* : 8 Points Distinction: 7 Points Merit: 6 Points Pass: 5 Points
