Course summary

The BTEC National Diploma in Sport is a practical, work related course that is equivalent in size to 2 A levels. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands as well as written examinations and a task. The course is multi-disciplinary, encouraging the development of a range of skills and emphasising independent learning. It combines theory with practical work and is taught and assessed through activities closely related to the sports industry. As well as formal teaching and practical activities, the course will include role-play, group work, discussions and debates, research, visiting speakers and visits to external organisations. Learners will complete six mandatory units and three optional units. The Four units covered include the four units from the Extended Certificate course plus: Unit Four: Sports Leadership Unit Five: Fitness Testing Unit Ten: Sports Event Organisation Unit Twenty Two: Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry Unit Twenty Three: Skill Acquisition in Sport

How you'll be assessed

The qualification is made up of 6 mandatory units (1-4 and 22-23) and 3 optional units (5, 7 and 10). External assessment - 45%: External written exam covering Unit 1. Externally set tasks covering Unit 2 and 22. Internal assessment: Units 3, 4, 5, 7, 10 and 23 are assessed internally.
