Course summary

Work Experience within external organisations and internships within QE School. Employers and higher education institutions value the transferable skills developed through work shadowing or work experience. These skills include verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, teamwork, initiative and skills using technology. Students are encouraged during the summer break to think about which organisations they would like to gain experience working within. Contact will need to be made directly with the employers to enquire as to whether they are interested in hosting a work experience student on a regular basis throughout the school academic year. Students need to register their interest with the employer and gather sufficient contact details ready to make contact again in September. All students must wait until they have received their new school timetable to see when their free periods are before confirming their work experience placement timings with their employer. Please note that students are unable to use their current part-time employment as work experience, nor can they work with family members at home. After students have been successful in finding a suitable employer who is willing to work with them and the times they can offer, they will need to complete an online “WEX Proposal Form” which can be found on Google classroom under Work Experience. The Careers department will check its suitability and will then make contact with the students via email on how to apply officially through the Unifrog portal. Upon registration, an automated application is created by Unifrog that will capture the relevant information needed to legalise the placement and capture permissions from student, employer, parent/carer and school. Joining instructions will then be sent to the student prior to their start date. Assistance from the Careers team can be given in room B3.
