Psychology is a new and exciting subject for many of those who take it up in the Sixth Form. It is a collaboration of scientific methodology and theory in the study of five core components: Social, Cognitive, Physiological, Developmental and Individual Differences. We use these key approaches to study causes of behaviour based on historic and contemporary research from psychologists. If you are interested in mental health, forensics/crime, sports psychology alongside a range of other areas like autism, social influence, the effect of brain structure and phobias then this is a course for you. We also look at the structure of scientific research, learn how to plan and carry out psychological research by forming a hypothesis, collecting data, analysing data and coming to a conclusion. The skills and content taught on this A Level course will help further study at university and act as a guideline for when students carry out their own research on undergraduate courses.
100% examination. Paper One: 30% - Research methods. Paper Two: 35% - Psychological themes through core studies. Paper Three: 35% - Applied Psychology. Mental health, sports psychology, forensic psychology.
