This course is a content-led approach. A flexible approach where the specification is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of physics. As learners progress through the course they will build on their knowledge of the laws of Physics, applying their understanding to solve problems on topics ranging from sub-atomic particles to the entire universe. For A level only, the Practical Endorsement will also support the development of practical skills. Module 1 Practical skills, using CRO, micro-meter, Geiger counter, laser. Referencing and error estimation. Module 2 Quantities and units. Measuring and analysing. Vector resolution. Module 3 Force, projectiles, work, energy and power, materials, Newton’s laws of motion and momentum, collisions. Module 4 Charge, current, energy, power, resistance, circuits. Waves and Quantum physics. Module 5 Thermodynamics, circular motion, oscillations, gravity, astrophysics. Module 6 Capacitors, electric field, electromagnetism, nuclear and particle physics, medical imaging.
This course is a two-year course and should be studied with alongside a minimum of three A-Level subjects. Grade 6 or above in the GCSE Subject being studied at A-Level, along with x5 GCSE's grades 5-9 (including English and Maths, unless these are being studied at A-Level).
This course is exam based and students will sit their exams at the end of their second year of study. Students will also complete mock exams as part of their assessment process throughout their studies.
