If you enjoy reading across a wide range of literature, then this could be the course for you. Studying novels, plays and poetry feeds the imagination, helping you to formulate new perspectives and ideas whilst challenging your beliefs and values. You will be encouraged to fully engage with texts and think critically and analytically about what you are reading. You will learn how to formulate your own opinions and interpretations, and how to communicate these ideas effectively, not just in essays and exams, but during class discussions which make up a large part of the course. Studying English Literature develops your written and verbal communication skills, your ability to use words to your advantage, and to think and respond analytically. Students might go on to university to study a range of related subjects such as history, sociology, psychology, drama, theatre studies, or law.
