
This course enables students to develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems, and institutions that affect everyday life. Students will be able to explain, analyse and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the Market Economy and the role of government within it. It may be combined with Business Studies as there is little content that overlaps.
• GCSE Mathematics and one English at grade 5 AND • Where studied, GCSE Economics or Business at grade 5
Paper One (35%) – Markets and Business behaviour Each question is set in a context, drawing on topics from across Themes 1 and 3. The paper comprises three sections. Students answer all questions from Section A and Section B, and one from Section C. • Section A comprises a range of multiple-choice and short answer questions. • Section B comprises one data response question broken down into several parts. • Section C comprises a choice of extended open-response questions; students select one from a choice of two.
